Saturday Snapshot - February 12th

Saturday Snapshot is a weekly meme hosted by Alyce, from At Home With Books.  All we have to do is post a favorite photo we've snapped, or one captured by family or friends. (No internet poaching.)

For today's snapshot, I went back to my undergrad days - back in the time of the dinosaurs when we didn't have digital cameras.  I took several photography classes.  When it came to developing color slides, I stunk at it. (And I hated it. You would spend 45 minutes in total darkness only to discover that you had placed the paper in the easel crooked and had to start over.) When my professor offered me the opportunity to hand color my black and white photos and let that count as my "color" work. I jumped on it. It is one of the things I miss about the old days.    This a picture of my cousin, who was more like my little brother than a cousin.  He and his sister would were used to my snapping their pictures all the time.

Heee! what a cute picture. I've always wondered how to handcolor a black and white. It looks antique.

Very cool picture.....I'm guessing 1980, there about, for that picture, as Cabbage patch dolls were all the rave there, and I stood in long lines trying to get them for my daughter,...LOL

@Trish - that antique look was one of the things I enjoyed about hand tinting b&w photos. I'm working on learning how to do the same thing with Adobe Photoshop, now that I've gone completely digital.

@Diane - it was somewhere between 1985 and 1988 - those are the years that I took photography. Yikes, I just admitted how old I am. I wonder if my cousin (or his mom) still has that Cabbage Patch doll.

There is something magical about hand colored black and white photos. My parents have a couple of my grandparents (like their wedding photo).

I like the look of the hand coloring... my dad used to do that.

I do remember the old days of 35mm film and I'm glad they are gone, for me anyway. One too many times I loaded my camera wrong and didn't realize until later that I had taken... well... nothing.

Love this photo, I've never colored a black and white photo before.
